Artist Eugene Morelli donated this H58"xW24"xD20" bronze "Majesty"
statue for the entrance to the Currahee KIA Memorial. The Morellis
were moved to make this contribution (valued at $20,000) in memory
of Ms. Morelli's nephew. Matthew Zygmunt was a soldier in the 4BCT,
506th Infantry Regiment. Matthew fought with the Currahees in Iraq in
2005-2006, returning safely only to die in an automobile accident in
August 2009 as he prepared to enter college. "Matthew was very proud
of his service with the 506th, and treasured his association with that
organization," said Morelli in an interview. "Our families have a strong
military tradition, and Joan and I felt this sculpture was an appropriate
and meaningful way to honor his memory."

Major Place,

It was great to meet you in Ft Campbell. Thank you for sending the photos. I am sending you
a couple of my favorites from that day.

Thank you again for all you did to get Majesty in place for the dedication. The placement and
presentation on the granite was exceptional. The whole experience has been a very powerful
one for me. I left Ft Campbell feeling very honored to have had a small part in something so
important and very grateful to all those who serve this country.

Through Matthew and every one I met at Ft Campbell, I have a better understanding of the
Currahee legacy. I remember Joan and I talking with Mattthew before he was deployed to
Iraq. There was such a sure confidence in himself and his training, a tremendous pride &
confidence in being a Currahee, the men he served with and the Officers & NCOs of his
company. It was something I saw echoed over & over again in Ft Campbell in everyone
I met.

My memories of that day will always remain as some of my most important. And the
Currahees will always remain in my thoughts & prayers.

Keep safe & keep in touch.

Your Friend,

Eugene
