Currahee Packages and Morale Fund
After careful consideration, the 506th Association has decided
to reinstate the
Currahee Packages Project and to rename it so that it more accurately
reflects
what this fund will attempt to provide in the way of support
for the active duty
soldiers of the 506th Infantry Regiment .
This Fund will be used to provide morale boosting items such
as Currahee Battle
Flags, 506th Association PX items, and other products that
will be purchased
and sent to our troops.
The scope of this project will be based upon the level of support
received.
Questions may be directed to me at AlfredMay@aol.com.

Currahee KIA Memorial at Fort Campbell, KY
Over 1,400 Currahees have made the supreme sacrifice for our
country. You
may have known some of them. But what you may not know is that
there is no
single memorial to all the soldiers of our Regiment who have
been killed in action.
This situation is about to change. Much of the work has been
completed on the
memorial, however, we must still pay for the engraving of most
of the KIA names.
This tribute to our fallen is being paid for by people like
you. The Army has pro-
vided the land; however, soldiers, and veterans, along with Currahee
friends and
family, will have to come together if we are to complete this
project. Now is the
time to step up and take action. Click the links below to see
what the memorial
looks like and how you can make this dream a reality.
The granite stones were put in place,
and the formal
dedication was held on
November 12, 2009.
After two more years of fund raising, we had the funds
required to pay for the engraving of the WWII and Vietnam KIA
names
(and the re-engraving of the Iraq and Afghanistan KIA names)
on their
designated stone tablets. With all of the engraving complete,
a Rededication
Ceremony was held on November 11, 2011.
Money collected from now on
will be used for landscaping and perpetual care of the memorial.
$49,000 Construction Goal (completed)
$5,000 For engraving of KIA names from the next deployment
$16,000 Required for the Landscaping and Perpetual Care Fund
(June 2012: landscaping/bench/pedestal)
$75,000 is our Goal, with more than $64,000 raised so far.

Fund Raising for the
2011 Currahee Grand Ball
(completed October 21, 2011)
In order to keep costs low for active duty soldiers, the
506th Association
participated in an effort to raise funds for the 2011 Grand Ball.
All dona-
tions were tax deductible, and ALL Currahee veterans were invited.
2,000 people were expected to attend this ball, with more
than half of them
being active-duty 4th BCT Currahee soldiers, most of whom would
have
just returned, in August 2011, from a 1-year deployment to Afghanistan.

506th Commemorative Monument
(fundraising completed July 5, 2011)
The Airborne and Special Operations Museum near
Fort Bragg at 100 Bragg
Boulevard in Fayetteville, NC has an entrance walkway lined with
memorial
stones commemorating airborne and special operations units. Regrettably,
the
506th was not represented, so the 506th Association, in conjunction
with the
Museum Director, undertook a project to place a Currahee stone
on that
walkway. These stones are paid for by veterans and veterans groups. |

4th Brigade Combat Team, 506th Infantry Regiment (Currahee) in
an effort to raise funds for the 2009 Currahee Rendezvous events.

Fund Raising for the 2008 Afghanistan
Deployment
(completed December 31, 2008)
After careful consideration, the 506th Association Board of
Directors decided
against asking our members to support a third Package Project
for the deployment
of the Regiment to Afghanistan in 2008.
The reasoning behind this decision is the general falling off
of support during the
2006 deployment, along with the increased requirements of supporting
the entire
4th Brigade Combat Team, 506th Infantry as opposed to just the
two 506th
Infantry Battalions.
The balance in the Currahee Packages Fund was spent on the creation,
production,
and shipping to Afghanistan of the new Currahee
Battle Flag, which was designed
by the active-duty troops of the 506th Infantry Regiment.
