Silver Star Ceremony

Four soldiers from 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, were awarded the Silver Star
for their
actions in Afghanistan. (Back to Front): SPC Gregory Waters, SSG Michael

32 OEF KIAs

The 32 KIAs during the 2008-2009 deployment to Afghanistan were honored.

Fifteen of the soldiers were from the 4BCT, 506th based at Fort Campbell, KY; one
was a US civilian sociologist; and the other 16 were members of units that made up
Combined Task Force Currahee,which included a Polish Battle Group and a Czech
Provincial Reconstruction Team.



Attendees
The Currahee Memorial Ceremony was attended by 4BCT active-duty Currahees,
Currahee veterans, and family members of KIA Currahee soldiers.


Wreath-Laying Ceremony
(L-R): CSM(R) Robert Nichols (Honorary 506th CSM); CSM Timothy Coop (CSM, 4BCT, 506th)
and COL Pete Johnson (Commander, 4BCT, 506th) participated in a wreath-laying ceremony.

The wreath honored KIA Currahees from
WWII, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq.


Unveiling
COL Johnson and CSM Coop unveiled hand-drawn renderings of a Currahee KIA
Memorial
at Fort Campbell, which will honor the more than 1,400 Currahees killed
in action in WWII, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

Glenn Goodwin

(R): Glenn Goodwin, of Roy Goodwin Contractors in Nashville, generously contributed
$30,000 worth of concrete and labor for the foundation of the Currahee KIA Memorial.
