A Company, 1st Battalion, 506th PIR
KIA December 21, 1944 - Bastogne, Belgium

submitted by Mary Dunn

The mass card above was provided by Mary Dunn. Mary remembers Sgt. Joseph R. Hopkins as Jody. She recounts, "Jody was a wonderful young fellow, very popular good looking guy. I was only in the 8th grade when the War started. I went to school with his sister Lucille at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel grammar school. She was my first friend in Boonton. The family was devastated by the news that Jody was killed in action. The photo on the mass card was taken while he was home on leave. I was in touch with Lucille at our church's 150th year reunion a few years ago."

The 506th Airborne Infantry Association (Airmoble-Air Assault) thanks Mary for remembering a Currahee hero.
