Shames and Suerth

COL(R) Edward D. Shames (I/HQ, 3rd BN; E Co, 2nd BN, 506th PIR, 1942-1945) was the featured speaker in a
program on International Holocaust Remembrance Day in the Capitol rotunda in Saint Paul, MN, on
January 15, 2013. COL Shames was the first American officer to enter one of the six Dachau satellite
concentration camps near
Landsberg, Bavaria, Germany on April 28, 1945, and gave a very moving
account of the experience.
