The M1942 zipper-front jump jacket was a water-repellent, windproof jacket designed specifically for paratroopers. It was originally made of cotton poplin in Olive Drab #2 color, but several variations existed due to different manufacturers and a tendency to fade after washing. The jacket featured four spacious bellows pockets with large pocket flaps, the top two angled for ease of access in combat jump situations. The neck, pockets and cuffs were reinforced with double press studs to keep them from opening during jumps, and the jacket's generous cut was secured with a waist belt to minimize equipment snags.
